Unity 3D 3.3.1 x32/x64/Mac OS X (2010)

Unity 3D - a tool of development and multiplatform engine for 3D games under Mac OS X and Windows, with the ability to work in a browser. The latter is particularly interesting, since such decisions are very few, and often they work very slowly. A complete description of the features is the official site and their review will require more than one article. I will mention only the possibility to use C #, Boo (a dialect Python) and javascript, which is compiled into native byte code. And that, based on Unity3D already being developed several online browser-based games. This is facilitated by the presence of Fullscreen mode, which runs right mouse button (like in Flash it can not be used). Features of the engine, though not unlimited, but they are very large. The ability to import models directly from the 3d editor, is one of the most important. In other engines have to convert the model, that there was an opportunity to use it. However, Unity can load the model formats *. max, *. fbx, and many others, which greatly simplifies the work on the project. Likewise, supports bones, which allows you to create complex animated characters. Just Unity has a very intuitive user interface and many opportunities for its configuration.

* Windows: XP SP2 or later; Mac OS X: Intel CPU & "Leopard" 10.5 or later. Note that Unity was not tested on server versions of Windows and OS X.
* Graphics card with 64 MB of VRAM and pixel shaders or four texture units. Any card made in this millennium should work.
* Using Occlusion Culling requires GPU with Occlusion Query support (some Intel GPUs do not support that).

System Requirements for Unity-Authored Content:
* Windows 2000 or later; Mac OS X "Panther" 10.3.9 or later.
* Pretty much any 3D graphics card, depending on complexity.
* Online games run on all browsers, including IE, Firefox, Safari, and Chrome, among others.

New Features:
* Managed. NET DLLs can now be placed in the project folder and can contain script code, including MonoBehaviours, EditorWindows and ScriptableObjects. This allows you to move any code into a DLL, making code sharing between projects easier, and making it easier for middleware developers to create libraries without sharing the source code. This was introduced in Unity 3.0 but was not mentioned in the release notes.
* Scripting: Added GL.InvalidateState to flush the internal renderstate cache in Unity. This is mostly useful when writing native code plugins that access the 3D device.
* Audio: Added AudioSettings.outputSampleRate. Returns the mixer's output rate; use this to calculate the precise hertz range returned from GetSpectrumData.

Fixes:
* Editor: Fixed out of memory errors when editing very large terrains due to the Undo system.
* Editor: Fixed "too many open files" error when reimporting a large project with many shaders on Mac OS X.
* Editor: Some textures would not say "Texture not yet compressed" when importing with the "Compress Textures" preference turned off.
* Editor: Fixed a bug where upgrading a Unity 2.x project with normal maps would leave some normal maps not marked as Normalmap type properly.
* Terrain Engine: Unity 2.x Soft Vegetation tree shaders had lighting upside down:)
* Shaders: fixed Surface Shader compilation errors with large custom output structures.
* Shaders: wrong syntax in UnityCG.glslinc file (for GLSL shaders).
* Graphics: fixed Projector crash in some circumstances.
* Graphics: fixed tangent vectors not bound correctly with GLSL shaders on some GPUs.
* Graphics: fixed dynamic batching corrupting vertex colors on Direct3D.
* Graphics: fixed GL.TRIANGLES rendering with large triangle counts on Direct3D.
* Graphics: fixed some hiccups when changing non-uniform scale of meshes.
* Graphics: Fixed dynamic batching index overflow.
* Audio: GetOutputData / GetSpectrumData API changed so it accepts an pre-allocated array instead of allocating on every call. Old API is deprecated and marked obsolete.

Installation on Windows:
* Download Unity 3.1 and activate with a free "Indie Licence" (you can select Internet Activation).
* Download the patch and extract it from the zipped archive (um3_b94.exe)
* Start um3_b94.exe - it will sit in your system tray. (It can be run from any directory)
* Start unity3d as normal, or from Monodevelop - it should come up in "Pro" mode. (Dark Grey GUI)
* Patched to -> Unity Pro, Asset Server and Android Advanced (Android Advanced needs Registered Android SDK from Google)
* With Unity running. Go to Help> About Unity. Bottom right corner of pop-up window shows you what is currently licensed.
* Note: If you had a previous installation of Unity (even if you uninstalled it) and you don't see the option to load the Bootcamp Demo in Unity 3.1 on start-up, you can find it in the following Directory (it's a installation glitch)
* Vista or Windows 7 C: \ Users \ Public \ Documents \ Unity Projects \ Bootcamp Demo
* XP C: \ Documents and Settings \ All Users \ Documents \ Unity Projects \ Bootcamp Demo
* Move the folder to My Documents \ My Unity Projects

Installation on Mac OS X:
* Install Unity 3.1.0. extract patched executable to Unity.app / Contents / MacOS overwriting original
